SYDNEY HARBOUR CRUISES TO BE TAKEN TO NEW LEVEL OF SOPHISTICATION

Magistic Cruises launched by Accor

May 2001

Magistic Two, a luxury catamaran, currently under construction, will launch a new era of cruising on Sydney Harbour when it is commissioned in August 2001.

The vessel will be the flagship of the newly created Magistic Cruises, a division of Blue Line Cruises, which also operates the Sydney Showboats. This exciting new purpose-built vessel will boost Sydney’s capacity to host cruises for the growing top-end corporate and MICE markets as well as the rapidly increasing inbound tourist sector. With three levels and extensive outdoor decks, the new vessel will boast the largest open fore deck on Sydney Harbour and will include staging and state-of-the-art audio and lighting systems. The vessel will have capacity for up to 360 guests or for 260 seated.

Magistic Two will be available for private charter for evenings and during the day will provide an innovative café-style dining experience with a premium lunch option. The service style will be uniquely Australian, with a fresh, casual approach rather than the traditional harbour cruise experience. Magistic Two will complement the existing vessel in the Magistic Cruises’ fleet, the MV Magistic. This elegant vessel has a capacity of up to 100 guests and has been a popular motor yacht for celebrities and VIPs including Prince Albert of Monaco, Drew Barrymore, Nadia Commaneci and the Brazilian football team.

“Magistic Two launches a new phase in Blue Line Cruises’ business and we are very excited about being able to grow our business in the top-end corporate and MICE sectors,” said Sudhir Warrier, CEO of Blue Line Cruises. “Our Sydney Showboats are already very well known but with this vessel, and the existing MV Magistic, we will build awareness of Magistic Cruises as a separate brand for a different market segment. “Another innovation is that the two vessels in the Magistic fleet, along with the two Sydney Showboats, will operate out of Sydney’s newest waterfront precinct, King Street Wharf, which is to become one of the world’s best harbour cruise centres.

Blue Line Cruises has been operating for over 18 years. In 1999, the Sydney Showboats were awarded the Tourism Council of Australia’s Award of Excellence in the Tourism Restaurant of the Decade category for their contribution to inbound tourism.
